Whether you have a specific image brief or full copy, I will work in close contact with your media manager, editors, authors or designers, to fully understand the style and feel of the imagery you require. I will then research & supply a range of suitable images for your project. I aim to provide the best selections possible within your time-frame and budget.
I have an extensive contacts book and have developed a fantastic knowledge of news and specialist photo-agencies & archives worldwide including museum, corporate, university and public archives and art collections, to which am constantly adding.
Once final selections have been made, I will negotiate fees & secure permissions as necessary, complete all admin and supply image credits and acknowledgements as appropriate. I am happy to work within your in-house DAM system as required and supply paperwork in Excel or whatever format you prefer.
There's no getting away from it rights and permissions can be a complicated business. Relatively speaking, with all the online resources at out fingertips, finding an image is often the easy bit, the tricky part can be working out whether you have the right to use that image and securing the necessary permissions to do so. One of the most common mis-conceptions I encounter, (ignoring Google!) is the notion that if an image can be downloaded from from a photo-library it can be used for any purpose. While Royalty Free, fully released, imagery does fall into this catagory not much else does. Each image may have specific restrictions dictacted by the photographer or more complex restrictions depending on whether model or property releases are available for the image and your intended use. If you use imagery, art or illustration you should consider using a Picture Researcher who is a rights and permissions specialist.
As part of the research process I will assess whether, within the context of the use, any third party permissions are required, over & above the copyright held by the photographer. For example this applies particularly to the use of 'artworks' such as paintings, sculptures, furniture or buildings as well as images which show any branding which might need PR approval.
